Nashville, Tenn (October 15, 2015) Provident artist Matt Maher was awarded two awards on Tuesday night at the 46th Annual Dove Awards held at Lipscomb University in Nashville. Maher was honored with the Songwriter of the Year (Artist) and the Worship Song of the Year for "Because He Lives (Amen)." He also performed his award-winning song last night along with the legendary Bill Gaither. The Dove Awards will be televised on TBN on Sunday, October 18th at 9 pm CT.

"What an unbelievable honor to be recognized by the GMA and my peers for these two awards,” shares Maher. “So many of the songs the Church is singing these days is a result of collaboration from many talented writers who all believe we are in a season of unprecedented unity in serving God and His Church. We were all raised up and encouraged by the songs of those who’ve come before us - such as Bill and Gloria Gaither. I couldn’t do what I do without the support of an amazing team of people in my life, and any award an artist receives is an acknowledgement of their efforts as well.”

Five-time GRAMMY-nominated Maher was recently a part of the list of high profile performers and celebrities to play before more than one million people at the Festival of Families, The World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 with Pope Francis. In addition to his performance, he took time to speak with CNN about this honor. This was Maher’s second performance at a major event with Pope Francis as he performed his hit song “Lord, I Need You” in front of three million people on stage with Pope Francis at the 2013 World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro.

Today Maher will kick off his "Saints & Sinners" tour with label mates Jon Guerra, I Am They and new artist Hannah Kerr. The tour will continue through December.  See the complete list of tour dates below.

Since his 2008 major label debut, recording artist, songwriter and worship leader, Maher has become a staple in the artistic and songwriting community. A five-time GRAMMY® nominee, he has garnered multiple radio successes writing and recording songs like “Lord, I Need You,” “Hold Us Together,” “All The People Said Amen,” “Your Grace Is Enough,” “Because He Lives (Amen),” Come As You Are,” and “Soul On Fire.” Maher has penned songs recorded by Chris Tomlin, Crowder, Third Day, Matt Redman, Hillsong, Passion and Meredith Andrews, among others. In 2013, Maher performed on stage with Pope Francis in front of more than three million people at World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, and is scheduled to perform at World Youth Day 2016 taking place in Krakow, Poland.
